Hollywood CA (Cable Muse Network, LLC) – Last week Vanessa and Angela Simmons joined an all-star panel of local African-American
community organizers, business executives and trendsetters to share with over 200 spectators their personal philosophies of
success and insight into the decisions and actions that have led them to be their best while inspiring others at the Beverly
Center as part of the Macy’s “Celebrate You” event series that pays homage to Black History Month.
The Simmons discussed how their ingenuity
and creativity helped them commence their flourishing brand, Pastry. The brand wan idea that the sisters came up with in 2006
before launching four pairs of shoes in spring 2007 after discovering a void in the sneaker business that they felt that they
could purge.
“We started Pastry because we
wanted to make a line of sneakers for girls. There was a void in the market of sneakers for girls made by girls and we’ve
expanded to what you see today with clothes, watches and handbags, explained Vanessa.
Since becoming a runaway hit three
years ago Pastry has earned $63 million in sales and has expanded internationally and according to Vanessa and Angela have
a plethora of items on the way for young women across the globe. “We’re definitely globalizing. We’re now
in the United Kingdom and we have a ton of stuff coming out later this winter and for back to school,” said the energized
sisters.
Vanessa and Angela, the daughters of
Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, a founding member of the iconic hip-hop group Run DMC can also be seen on their own
reality show “Daddy’s Little Girl.” Upcoming projects for the pair include Vanessa, a St. John University
alumnus getting more involved in the film industry and Angela continuing to expand Word Up! Magazine’s subsidiary publication
“Angela’s rundown” in which she serves as executive editor.
Macy’s “Celebrate You”
event series will head to Atlanta next on February 6 and it other cities eight other cities before concluding at Macy’s
Houston Galleria February 28. The ten city tour is moderated by Sheila P. Coates, founder and president of Be Your Own Brand.
