KISSY
January, 2010
My name is Pearl and I am very excited that you want to know more about Uniqua, one of the infamous "Phoenix
Seven". Her name is now Kissy. I have never had a dog who loves to give kisses as much as she does.
We have two greyhounds Sweetie (9 yrs. old) and Fifi (3 yrs. old). Sweetie is in renal failure and FiFi and she are
very close.

Over a year ago I had four greyhounds, three passed away within six months and Sweetie was left on her own
and she grieved for her lost buddies. She became ill before Fifi came so I did not want Fifi to go through the
same experience. I had been thinking about getting another greyhound but had not acted on it.

I went to our web site like I always do to see what dogs are available. I stopped immediately on Kissy.
She had the cutest expression on her face and looked like a little fawn. I then read about her. They said she
was her trainers favorite and that she was a hugger, likes to cuddle and very affectionate. That sold me! I had
made up my mind, we were to adopt her. I had not even discussed it with Beau.
I contacted Judy and she was very excited that we wanted her. The day the greyhounds were to arrive
at Judy's in Albuquerque, NM, was Dec. 5. She called me to see if we could pick Kissy up the next
day and we said, “Yes”. When we arrived at Judy's and walked in, Kissy (Uniqua) flew into my arms and just
about kissed my face off. It was like she knew we were there for her.

After going through the paper work with Judy, she lifted her into our car and off we went. Kissy was
nervous so I climbed into the back with her and we slept all the way home. When we got home, we introduced Sweetie and
Fifi to Kissy and they got along right away. Kissy had a rough time on our cement floors. She was ice skating all over
the place and would only walk on the carpeted areas. I remembered I had Excel paw protectors and I put some on
her paws so she would not slide. It worked!! She was nervous all night and she finally went to sleep about 1 am.
The next day was a little better,
but still nervous and hyper. I tried to teach her the doggie door; she would not have anything to do with it.
She wanted me to open the door for her to go out. Tuesday Dec. 8, we had a very big snow storm about 8 to 10 inches.
Kissy did not like it. She would go out and hold up a paw one at a time like it was hurting her. I started to
put extra amounts of Excel on her paws, it helped. Since she did not know the doggie door I was afraid to leave her
for an extended amount of time. I went and bought her an x-large dog kennel and she loved it. So when we left,
we made sure she had gone potty and put her in it and she was okay with that arrangement. During the week she would
wake me up at 1:00 am, with kisses. I thought she needed to go out but she would refuse. I was baffled.
One Thursday Dec. 10, I was up late doing paper work and Kissy woke up about 11:00 pm went out the doggie door and came back
in and gave me kisses. What a surprise for me! She is smarter than what I thought!!

I sleep with the dogs when they are ill and when there is a new one so I can make sure everything
is okay. The girls have their own bedroom with a queen size bed, couch, doggie beds, and water access to a small backyard.
They have their own bathroom for baths. When we are gone we baby gate them in their room and they love it. Oh
they also have a TV! Favorite program: Animal Planet. Kissy has learned to roooooo!! This is Sweetie's specialty.
There is a roo session in the morning after breakfast and at night after their dinner. They love to do it.
Kissy is our alarm dog!! She
barks when she sees someone or hears something. She is our guard dog. Sweetie is even eating better and playing
a lot more. Kissy and Fifi run races in our big back yard. They play mouthy games with each other their tails
are wagging no biting. Kissy also likes to clean FiFi ears. They are having a wonderful time with each other.
Kissy is also a velcro dog. So everywhere I go in the house all 3 follow me it is hard to get things done when everyone
wants to be with you. We have doggie toys all over the place, I put them away and they take them all out right
away. Kissy is a very curious, loving, and comical little girl. She is very much a puppy still and we are
having a great time with her. I cannot imagine life without her or my other two greyhounds.

We have had greyhounds since 1994. I cannot imagine not having 1 or 3 or 4 greyhounds
at a time. They are a wonderful breed and very loving. I know Beau will be sending you his comments on Kissy.
Thank you for having a interest in these wonderful dogs. Hope more people will be interested and open their hearts to
these wonderful creatures.
Pearl
and her muttly crew Sweetie, FiFi and Kissy too!

Pearl and I originally had whippets when we first got together in the early 1980s. While on
a windsurfing vacation at Padre Island Texas in early 1994 we saw a greyhound. on the beach. His track name was Frankly Frank
but because of his regal appearance he was known as Mister Frank!! The owner was going through a divorce so when he saw how
much we loved the hound he drove Mr. Frank to Santa Fe. Since that time we have adopted many greyhounds- they are the sweetest
dogs in the world.

Kissy's original name was Uniqua but she gave so many kisses the first day we had her that we immediately
changed her name to Kissy!! She has adapted amazingly well and immediately became a member of the pack. Our other greyhounds
Sweetie and Fifi play with her frequently.
On 3rd Jan 2010 we celebrated Kissy's second birthday- complete with a cake. She wore the traditional
birthday hat while we sang "for she's a jolly good greyhound"!!! She enjoyed it tremendously!! She has a beautiful
face and a warm personality. She is a great addition to our "pack"!!!
